Counselling

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows people to discuss their problems and any difficult feelings they encounter in a safe, confidential environment, with a non-judgemental person outside of their family and social circle.

Counselling is often sought when people need someone to talk to. They may want to change patterns, stop destructive behaviours or alter factors in their lives. A counsellor is not there to sit you down and tell you what to do . Instead they will encourage you to talk about what it is that is making your life difficult. This allows you to both discover any root causes and identify how and why you act as you do. The counsellor may then look to create a plan of action to either help you reconcile your issues, or help you find ways of coping.

There are many different types of counsellors and counselling schools of thought, and often the key is finding the person who is the right fit for you.
